We promote and enhance democratic practices by strengthening governance, political and government institutions, and civic spaces.
Democracy at the center
Democracy is at the heart of national governance systems and serves as tool to empower and protect the rights of every individual within a given society.
Even in established democracies, rising authoritarianism, weakened institutions, political division, misinformation, and technological manipulation threaten the very foundation of this democratic process.
We all have a duty to protect it.

The Oslo Center
The Oslo Center contributes to the development of democratic systems that respond to the needs of citizens, encourage meaningful and inclusive participation, and that protect human rights and dignity.
Our partners are at the center of our work. We assist them in their democratic journey by facilitating processes that are driven by local needs and context.

As well as strengthening democratic systems at home in Norway, The Oslo Center works with partners across East Africa and Eastern Europe. Our main thematic areas are Political Representation, Democratic Governance and Inclusion, within this there is particular focus on:
Youth engagement & inclusion
Bridging the gaps between young people and decision makers to help boost political engagement and promote sustainable development.
Empowering women in politics
Strengthening women’s role and representation in politics and creating forum for increased consultation, cooperation, and dialogue at national and sub-national levels.
Political representation
Promoting systems and frameworks that seek to represent citizens in policy developments, with their needs and priorities reflected in a country’s overall political direction.
